Indoor air pollution

Do you realize that indoor air

quality can be 2-5 times more

polluted than outdoor air?

Most of us are aware of the harms caused by outdoor air pollution, however, not many of us realize that the indoor air pollution can be equally detrimental to our health.

It has been discovered recently that the quality of the indoor air we breathe in is deteriorating fast due to the emissions of all kinds of chemicals indoors, be it in the offices or homes, commercial buildings or establishments.

Electromagnetic/radioactive waves, positive ions and ozone are being released daily when we use computers, printers and photocopiers in offices. The constant use of microwaves, hair dryers, gas stoves and television in homes can be another cause of concern for our human health.

The level of anions present on the surface of the earth is also constantly depleting.

New breeds of viral/ bacteria strains that can cause incurable diseases or even death are emerging and being discovered by scientists regularly.

Yet, most people spend a majority of their lives indoors, eg. in homes, service apartments, offices, factories, schools, childcare centres, hotels and so on.

Unfortunately, these indoor air pollutants which are invisible and odourless most of the time can cause serious human health issues, especially those with respiratory ailments.

Some of the common health effects from breathing polluted indoor air can range from mild allergic reactions such as flu-like symptoms, running nose, sneezing, nasal congestion, coughing; to more serious illness like bronchitis, breathing difficulties, dizziness and headaches.

Within an enclosed, air-conditioned room or building, the indoor air that we breathe in is often-times recirculated.  Hence, the pollutant concentration is elevated and can frequently cause the widely known ‘sick building syndrome’.

A natural way to reduce indoor air pollutants is to ventilate the building by allowing clean outdoor air to come in.

Alternatively, you may purchase a good air purifier to purify the air from unhealthy contaminants and keep your health in check.
